The aim of the IfaS is to promote the sustainable optimization

resource-efficient dealing with materials and material flows constitutes t
he backbone of a sustainable society. The IfaS considers the optimization of material flows not so much a technical question but rather a question of management.
A thorough analysis of the actual situation, the creation of solution-finding networks, the meticulous design of technology as well as sustainable financial plans represent the most important working issues for the IfaS.
The Institute for Applied Material Flow Management is an institute based at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld ("Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld"), whic
h is part of the University of Applied Sciences Trier.
The thematic focus of the IfaS centres on the following issues
regional use of material flows,
competent corporate networks,
material flow management in the waste disposal industry,
Zero Emission Village (ZEV) and
regional studies on value creation
With its projects, the IfaS is facing the task of creating (regional) added value through innovative management, through the development of networks a
nd through technology-induced communication. An interdisciplinary approach combining matters of ecology, economics and society is therefore part of our philosoph
y as well as dynamism, flexibility and intercultural competence.
Key aspects of the IfaSâ€™ activities concerning the part in the SEMS project
IfaS has developed a new business-oriented strategy for region
al sustainable development. Within this "company 21" called strategy, RES and E
re of mayor importance. In the frame-work of SEMS, IfaS will further improve this tool.
